IIT Gandhinagar Launches India’s First GenAI-Powered Tech Diploma Programmes

Why in the News

IIT Gandhinagar has once again set a new standard in higher education by introducing three fully residential postgraduate diploma programmes powered by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). This initiative positions the institute as one of the first in India to integrate GenAI and Agentic AI directly into formal technical training.

The announcement comes at a time when industries across the globe are rapidly adopting AI-driven solutions. Starting from February 2026, these specialised programmes aim to prepare the next generation of engineers and data professionals who can work confidently in an AI-first world.

What Is This Programme About

The newly launched diplomas include:

  • PG Diploma in AI and Agentic AI Engineering
  • PG Diploma in GenAI and Data Science Engineering
  • PG Diploma in AI-Powered Software Engineering with Cloud

Each course is designed as an intensive six-month, full-time residential programme, offering over 600 hours of immersive, project-based learning. The academic model mirrors a fast-track industry experience, helping participants bridge the skill gap between traditional education and real-world AI applications.

Admissions will take place through the All India National Proficiency Test (AINPT), followed by a multi-stage interview. Each course will have only 60 seats, ensuring close mentorship and personalised training. Students will live on IIT Gandhinagar’s eco-friendly campus, gaining exposure to collaborative research, live projects, and mentorship from leading AI professionals.

In addition, the institute has committed to providing 100% placement support for graduates who meet performance standards, a major incentive for professionals looking to pivot their careers toward advanced AI domains.

Final Thought

With the rise of AI education in India, IIT Gandhinagar’s step into GenAI-focused diplomas represents a turning point for technology learning. These programmes are more than short-term courses; they symbolise a new model of skill-building, combining academic depth with hands-on innovation.

For students and professionals aiming to future-proof their careers, this could be a powerful entry point into the expanding world of AI-powered engineering and data science. As the boundaries between machine intelligence and human creativity continue to blur, IIT Gandhinagar’s initiative reminds us that the next revolution in technology begins in the classroom.

Fact: The institute’s campus will host these AI-focused bootcamps on its 400-acre sustainable site, designed to encourage research, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
